Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP)

By acquiring IP-telephony hardware, the stock exchange creates a material base for voice Internet communications in the form of SIP-phones, VoIP-gateways, IP-PBX.

As a rule of thumb, installed IP-telephony devices transform analog voice signals into data packets, which are sent to the Internet.

How to evaluate the VoIP telephony provider call quality?

The hardware-software complex of the provider of VoIP-telephony receives an incoming call from the client (UAC  Ì¶  User Agent Client) on the proxy-server, from which the request is forwarded to the registration server to identify current locations of users. The redirection server detects the current IP address of the client and returns it if necessary. The same operations are performed by the appropriate software on the called party side (UAS  Ì¶  User Agent Server).

Among several additional services, offered by VoIP providers, you should pay attention to the following vital features:

1. SMS Callback service. It is the ordering of connections to a subscriber's cell phone using an SMS message. The use of this service is especially advantageous for calls over cellular communication in cases when subscribers are located in different cities: multiple savings on the costs of calls are achieved.

2. Conditional and unconditional call forwarding to mobile telephones.

3. Caller ID.

4. Setting of connection quality and tariff for chosen direction — choosing external operator which links your supposed VoIP-provider with your desired subscriber (tariff and connection quality statistics should be specified in User area).

5. Versatility of recharging your account: by bank cards, electronic payment systems, payment terminals, from a cell phone.

6. Provision of electronic receipts by the provider for usage in accounting reports.

7. Use of the billing system provides a detailed schedule of time and cost of calls to all telephone numbers of the company.

8. Terms of technical support.

9. Protection of FX exchange subscribers' communication channels and accounts from hacking with the help of Voice VPN solution (combination of VoIP and VPN technologies). It can allow creating secure voice connections in VoIP office networks due to the use of IPSec encryption which eliminates the possibility of communication channels used by Internet fraudsters at the expense of your company.

VoIP technology: why is it cheaper?

In order to provide fixed telephony services, it was necessary to create an infrastructure in the form of huge cable lines. For mobile telephony, it was necessary to build base stations for transmitting radio signals.

VoIP does not fully describe the technology which allows receiving and transmitting not only voice (this segment is named IP telephony), but also video content and, in general, any data presented in digital form. However, as of today IP telephony is the most demanded. This technology can be realized in any dedicated digital channels supporting Internet protocol and composing IP networks.

The first circumstance which has allowed IP-telephony providers to set a minimum level of payment for their services is that in public telephone networks (PSTN, PSTN) the payment for the call is determined by its duration and the length of the allocated channel. And IP-telephony is paid only for connection to the Internet and the volume of traffic transmitted.

Do not forget about payment for pauses in conversations. The billing system does not take into account the fact that pauses in a conversation, in fact, are a waste of time, but it simply counts the spent minutes and multiplies them by the rate. And IP telephony has a mechanism for blocking pauses (dialog, syllables, semantic pauses, spent by a subscriber on searching for the right words, distractions from the conversation, etc.), which can make up to 40-50% of the transmission channel occupation time.

1. What is VoIP?
